3/10. I am a beginner on South African Jews. Rabbi Posner, your quizzes are a great way to learn about our people. Many thanks! Reply

10/10. When I lived in South Africa for 62 years, we always called a challah "kitke" and after the Shabbat morning service in Shul or on a Jewish holiday, we enjoyed a brocha. Now that I live in Canada, it is a challah and a kiddush. Reply

Lekker questions! We called it challah. Thanks for the quiz, Rabbi Posner. Reply

9/10 not bad! Miss you SA.. Reply

Aharon Johannesburg January 18, 2022

What a lag! Now that South African Jewry has made it onto chabad.org, we have arrived ;)

Great quiz Menachem, please share where the inspiration came from to create it.

P.s. What a “Lag” used above, pronounced lach, is Afrikaans for “that’s so funny!” Also commonly used by us SA Jews. Reply

Tzvi Friedl January 20, 2022
in response to Aharon :

Our whole community is SA/Chabad, and Litvak at the same time here (in Western Australia) 😄 a Yid iz a Yid 😊 Reply
